Majority of properties and land in the UK is now registered digitally with HM Land Registry; however, there is still some property and land where the ownership remains unregistered.

Whilst selling or transferring an unregistered property now triggers the first registration of the ownership deeds, there can be great benefits to voluntary registration of ownership with the Land Registry.

Once the property is registered, you needn’t worry about proving ownership of the property when it comes to selling or transferring ownership in the future. If your property is unregistered and your title documents go missing or are destroyed you may struggle to prove your ownership of the property which can lead to extreme difficulty when the property comes to be registered whether this be registering the property yourself or as a result triggering the first registration.

It is highly recommended to ensure that your deeds are registered with the Land Registry and our dedicated conveyancing team can help you with process from start to finish.
